OELN Reviews

TakuNeri, by OELN author Feinerine, is a funny, touching and sometimes a bit awkward delight, in this review We will go over the good, the bad and the cooky.
Synopsis: Twenty-year-old Takumi Miyashiro is childhood friends with Nerisu Himenomiya, the princess of Dreilune. What she's hopelessly oblivious to, and he's hopelessly realised, is that he has an obsession with her. Armed with his shrine of Nerisu memorabilia and armour... Oh, didn't you know? She said she wanted a knight to protect her, so he swore to become the strongest knight who would ever live!
A romantic comedy about a shy cat boy and energetic half-alien princess begins! TakuNeri is a fun little story about two people who are hopelessly, if not naively in love, it chronicles their day to day lives in a very unique way, each chapter is a diary entry from one adolescence or the other. Both are fiercely committed to each other, but, like with any relationship, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some bumps along the way.
Now, as good and entertaining as the story is, there are a few things that although didn’t bother me too much, may turn off the average reader.
As mentioned before, the story chronicles the lives of Takumi and Nerisu through a series of diary entries. A fun idea, however, in many sections of the reading the sentence structure seems a bit sloppy, grammar is off, and certain sentences themselves are redundant. However one could argue this was done by the author on purpose to convey who the characters are.
Takumi, is shy and quite introverted, his lack of social skills and interaction may make it possible that he has never had need for a journal before, This, added to the fact that he is an adolescent trying to tell all the ways he loves this girl, its not outside the realm of believability that his mind maybe going to fast for his hand to keep up. He has so many thoughts about Nerisu that its hard to keep them all straight. The same can be said for Nerisu who unlike her knight, is energetic, outgoing and a bit of an airhead.
Think of your first dairy if you ever kept one, or maybe a song book that you have or started when you were young. Did all the thoughts make sense in the beginning? Did the lyrics not seem a bit random?
In truth, I found this a bit charming, however, other readers may find it confusing and abit off-putting for that it looses ½ a point.
The biggest problem that I had with the story however, came at the end. There’s a scenario in which they are talking about their friend group. However, Nerisu, claims there is only one couple in said group. As mentioned before Nerisu and Takumi are hopelessly in love. There’s no indication that any part of that changed. It occurs to me that perhaps by this point the author may have fallen into that trap that many of us content creators fall into. That being, creative Fatigue, where we spend so much time on a project, maybe even pause it for a while, and then forget aspects of the project when we continue. I am hoping this is no the case in volume 2 as I do plan to continue.
Finally, the story just kind of drops off, like a “To be Continuedd” in anime, it abrupt, rigid, and and jarring to be perfectly honest. -1pt
In conclusion, Despite wrap up issues, I still very much to recommend Takuneri “She is a Princess and I am her Kight.” Available on Amazon.
